music ed
I teach private music lessons on piano and saxophone, with a focus on listening, understanding harmony, feeling rhythm, applying music theory, transcribing, and improvising.
I’m not a traditional teacher. Most of the musical material I deal with is rooted in jazz, pop and swing. I don’t teach conservatory/classical methods. In fact, I’m not focused on teaching technique, and don’t spend very much lesson time on reading.
One of my goals is to make the connection between what my students listen to in their private time, and what we study in the lessons. My other big goal is to help develop the ability for students to play music with other people, to ‘jam’.
Unfortunately, at this time, I am not available for lessons, but would highly recommend you check out Daniel lapp’s house of music on the links page, under education.
